Concession Solutions
The growing participation
of the private sector in the promotion and financing of new infrastructures makes it necessary for new players to get involved in this field.
CAF has recently developed some RAILWAY CONCESSIONS solutions, adapting to the needs of their clients in an ever more complex market. It is also the case that the Public Administration increasingly turn to private funding to execute new infrastructure projects.
The operations follow the classic BOT format (Construct, Operate, Transfer)
Our strong points, amongst others, for the conception and execution of projects are:
- The closeness to the train operators, allowing us to have a better understanding of their problems and to propose specific solutions.
- Our knowledge of financial markets, permitting a faster search of direct resources, private and public financial resources and the capacity to cover risks.
- The ability to relate with other suppliers allows us to create groups with companies from different sectors to work on complex projects (civil works, signaling, communication, electrification, operators...)
- Finally, our experience and credibility transmits the trust required for implementation and success.
Examples of all of the above are as follows:
- Seville Metro. The Consortium including CAF has coordinated the construction and commercial operation for 35 years of the first subway line in Seville, which will is also the first in Spain to be completely managed by a private enterprise, taking advantage of the new administrative concession model.
- Malaga Metro. The project, the construction, operation and supply of rolling stock, produced by CAF, for lines 1 and 2 is undertaken under the 35 years administrative concession mode.
- Zaragoza Tram. The administration has selected a private partner, the consortium Traza, to create a mixed company which manages, as a public service, the construction, operation and maintenance of line 1. Commitment to public-private collaboration to together achieve a viable and efficient management model.
- Algiers Metro. The Algerian EMA metropolitan company has trusted in the Spanish-French consortium, which CAF forms a part of, to commission the city’s metro network. The selected group installs the comprehensive technical system and supplies the necessary equipment for the first line. A concession where the private sector provides their experience in global project coordination.
- New Delhi Metro. CAF, together with Reliance Industries, participates in the construction of the metro linking the airport to the centre of New Delhi (Express Metro). This concession is for operation of the line for 30 years which also includes maintenance of the rolling stock for a further 10 years.
- Antalya Tram (Turkey). CAF, with the Turkish construction company Alarco, designs, develops and commissions the tram network in the city of Antalya. This comprehensive project includes the construction of the infrastructure and stations, the electrification and signalling work and the supply of 14 trams.
- Mexico Suburban Railway: See Project Finance.
Experience, qualification and the close collaboration with public organisations and companies in the railway industry places CAF as a worldwide reference point in the management and coordination of administrative concessions. A model on the rise, which strengthens the company’s policy of increasing their presence in the market for comprehensive transport projects.
